MaxLinear's 40 V XR79203 and XR79206 synchronous step-down COT power modules each combine the controller, drivers, inductor, passive components, and MOSFETs into a single, easy-to-use QFN package while providing high efficiency in a small footprint. Very few external components are required, leading to ease-of-design and fast time-to-market. All pins are accessible for easy debugging and routing, and large pads provide high-thermal performance.
The 3 A XR79203 and 6 A XR79206 have a wide 5 V to 40 V input voltage range, allowing for single supply operation from industry-standard 24 V ±10%, 18 V to 36 V, and rectified 18 VAC and 24 VAC rails.
With a proprietary emulated current-mode constant on-time (COT) control scheme, each of these devices provide extremely fast line and load transient response using ceramic output capacitors. They require no loop compensation; hence, simplifying circuit implementation and reducing overall component count. A selectable power saving mode allows the user to operate in discontinuous mode (DCM) at light current loads thereby significantly increasing the converter efficiency.
Each device includes a host of protection features, including overcurrent, overtemperature, short-circuit, and UVLO. These help to achieve safe operation under abnormal operating conditions.
