ON Semiconductor's STK672 series of hybrid motor driver ICs use power MOSFETs in the output stage and are used to drive stepper motors. Based on a uni-polar constant-current PWM system, the devices include a built-in micro-stepping controller and support five excitation methods: 2 phase, 1-2 phase, W1-2 phase, 2W1-2 phase and 4W1-2 phase. In addition, they can provide control of the basic stepping angle of the stepping motor, divided into 1/16 step units and allowing the motor speed to be controlled with only a clock signal. The use of this hybrid IC allows designers to implement systems that provide high motor torques, low vibration levels, fast response, and high efficiency drive.

The STK681 series of hybrid motor driver ICs are designed for current control of DC brushed motors. The devices allow forward, reverse, and brake operations in accordance with the external input signal. These devices are available with a range of peak startup output current and peak output brake currents. They have current sensing resistors built-in which facilitates a space-saving design.
