Amphenol ICC has taken the Type C USB technology one-step further by offering a ruggedized version with a zinc die cast shell that exceeds IP67 requirements. Like the standard Type C, these connectors are unique as they have a reversible plug orientation and cable direction allowing for upside-up or upside-down mating, meaning the receptacles will engage with the plugs regardless of how the plug is inserted. This ruggedized Type C is available in either a right angle or vertical PCB tail version.

Both the right and vertical angle versions are available on an interposer card with any connector type defined by the customer on the opposite side and protective dust covers are also planned for this series of connectors. Just like the standard Type C, the ruggedized version provides a multi-function, single-cable solution for many applications. The IP67 rating on Amphenol ICC’s ruggedized Type C connector will allow engineers to future proof designs and build better, stronger, and more robust applications.

As the speed of information continues to increase and consumers demand smaller more robust devices, engineers have to find ways to reduce the amount of resonance in these applications. Amphenol ICC’s USB Type C connects all the grounded parts in the connector system such as the pins, the EMC sheet, and the latch. This reduces the amount of resonance transferring through the connector system limiting the amount of crosstalk and EMI interference and improving the connector’s performance.

Thanks to the Type C connector, USB technology is here to stay. The Type C will allow USB technology to adapt to computing platforms and devices that keep people connected.
