Digi XBee® 4G Cellular LTE Cat 1 modems

Digi offers cellular 4G power in a small Digi XBee package for Verizon networks. 4G LTE Cat 1 is ideal for machine-to-machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity. Traditional networking plans (Cat 3 and Cat 4) were designed for high-speed smartphones and are too cost prohibited for IoT applications. The emergence of LTE Cat 1 and its much lower operational costs make it an ideal solution.

Digi XBee cellular is Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certified as well as Verizon end-device certified. All cellular devices require certification, and Digi XBee cellular allows the user to get to market faster. The user can start working with a module or kit for immediate testing and implementation of their design. Cellular networks extend the reach far beyond the limitations of the unlicensed RF spectrum. Digi XBee cellular can operate in ultra-low-power modes, including sleep and deep-sleep modes. They can wake up and transmit the date hourly, daily, or as needed to extend battery life.

Five Reasons to Consider Embedded Cellular Connectivity
  • Cost-effectiveness: Most have considered embedded cellular in the past, but understandably rejected it because of high-cost data plans from carriers. Today, however, with the emergence of LTE Cat 1 (and, soon, Cat M1 and NB1), the economics are becoming far more favorable, sometimes in the range of just $2 per month (1 MB data plan). For deployments up to ten per location, such as low-power wide-area (LPWA) applications, it can be cheaper to embed cellular connectivity in each device instead of aggregating through a single gateway.
  • Greater coverage: As carriers continue to build out their networks to the furthest and remotest areas, there are fewer dead zones to limit the user's deployments. With Digi XBee cellular embedded modems, the user can easily develop and quickly deploy smarter, connected devices that are carrier-certified out of the box.
  • Verizon pre-certification: Digi XBee cellular is FCC-certified and Verizon end-device certified, so the user's device gets to market faster. Digi eliminates the traditional delays, thousands of dollars in costs, and headaches. Coming soon, Digi XBee units will be pre-provisioned as well for even faster deployment. OTA firmware updates and local or remote configurations give the user greater manageability.
  • Long-range, two-way communication: Digi XBee cellular enables secure out-of-band connectivity to devices on third-party sites, without requiring access to those sites’ wireless networks. What is more, cellular networks extend the user's reach far beyond the limitations of unlicensed RF spectrum.
  • Support for low-power and solar/battery-powered devices: The device can operate in ultra-low-power modes, including sleep and deep-sleep modes. Wake up and transmit data once a day or once an hour, as needed, to optimize battery life.
