Diodes' AL8861 hysteretic mode DC-DC buck LED driver operates from input supplies between 4.5 V and 40 V. Depending on the input voltage and external components, the AL8861 will provide up to 40 W output power. It integrates a low RDS(ON) power switch and a high-side LED/inductor current sensing circuit which uses an external resistor to set the nominal average LED current. Also, AL8861’s power switch incorporates short-circuit current protection to increased robustness. Dimming can be reached by applying an external control signal to the VSET pin. The VSET pin accepts either a DC voltage signal or a PWM signal. The packages available for the AL8861 are TSOT25, MSOP-8EP, and SOT89-5.
