The Microchip SAM R30 device is an ultra-low power microcontroller equipped with an IEEE 802.15.4 compliant radio. The on-board radio is rated for the sub-GHz frequency bands 780 MHz in China, 868 MHz in Europe, and the 915 MHz North America band. It uses a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0+ processor and offers 256 KB of Flash and 40 KB of SRAM (8 KB battery backed) in as small as a 5 mm x 5 mm QFN32 package. Power domain gating, SleepWalking, and ultra-low power peripherals are some of the advanced power management technologies that make this suitable for very low-power, long battery-life sensor applications. The SAM R30 typically draws less than 500 nA at 1.8 V battery supply with wake on serial communication, real time counter, or GPIO.
BPSK and O-QPSK modulation are supported by the on-board sub-GHz radio which delivers up to 11 dBm TX power with an RX sensitivity of -110 dBm. The highly configurable peripherals include up to five I2C, SPI, and UART interfaces with one in the low power domain, eight 12-bit ADC channels, and 48 capacitive touch channels with proximity sensing.
