IO-Link® ISM Transceiver

The IO-Link standard helps manufacturers meet the demands of Industry 4.0, smart sensors, and reconfigurable factory floors. A 3-wire industrial communications standard for linking sensors and actuators into control networks, IO-Link provides a point-to-point communication link with standardized connectors, cables, and protocols. Maxim Integrated provides IO-Link and industrial/scientific/medical (ISM) transceivers that provide the PHY interface to a microcontroller that runs the data-link layer protocol while supporting up to 24 V digital inputs and outputs.

For example, the MAX7037 is a sub-1 GHz ultra-low-power RF ISM transceiver with integrated 8051 microcontroller, Flash memory, and sensor interface that runs from a minimum supply voltage of just 2.1 V. This helps extend battery life and enables the transceiver to manage different energy sources, such as solar cells and electromechanical and thermo electrical energy. The combination of hardware-implemented transmit-and-receive routines and the microcontroller enable a high-efficiency transceiver system for wireless fail-safe multiband/multichannel communication with advanced FSK and ASK protocol features.

The MAX7044 is an example of a high-efficiency, crystal-based ASK transmitter. It transmits OOK/ASK data in the 300 MHz to 450 MHz range, supports data rates up to 100 kbps, and delivers output power up to +13 dBm into a 50 Ω load while drawing just 7.7 mA at 2.7 V. It is ideal for applications such as remote keyless entry systems, security systems, wireless game consoles, and wireless sensors.
