The expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0 has increased the need for microcontrollers supporting all different aspects of security such as confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The RPBRX65N Envision kit from Renesas addresses those requirements. An example is a secure network connectivity device in manufacturing environments. Network connectivity makes it possible to monitor the operating state of machinery and end devices from both on site and remotely to exchange data and make changes to production instructions, and to reprogram the MCU’s memory to update equipment settings. System manufacturers also need the capability to safely reprogram firmware or data in the MCU’s on-chip Flash memory to update machine control functions in a timely manner. Furthermore, the availability of the network connection device becomes an essential parameter as a malfunction of the unit, due to external cypher attacks may shut down the whole production line. Included features of Trusted Secure IP (TSIP) and Flash area protection provide root of trust of the device operation. Dual bank Flash feature (BGO and SWAP) enable customers in the field to easily flash firmware updates via network communication.  The Envision kit provides the evaluation environment that customers can use easily to confirm the performance of RX65N/RX651 and to start to develop their own software.
