SafetyBridge Technology Available on Axioline F

Phoenix Contact’s SafetyBridge technology (SBT) enables transmission of safety-related signals on standard automation networks, providing functional safety for machines and plants without the need for high-end failsafe PLCs. Now available on Axioline F are logic, 8-point input, and 8-point solid-state output modules.

Many applications today continue to use traditional safety technology based on electromechanical components, such as relays and contactors. This means that the safety signals must be wired in parallel and that functional flexibility remains low. In applications involving a medium to large number of safety signals, safety controllers based on microprocessors are increasingly used; however, safety rated controllers can greatly increase overall system cost and are not offered by all controller manufacturers.

With this in mind, Phoenix Contact developed SafetyBridge technology, a solution that is independent of a particular control system and network, and can be integrated into existing networks using a decentralized distribution strategy. Consisting of a master logic module and satellite input and output modules, SafetyBridge technology can serve as an upgrade to an existing line or as a replacement for a failsafe PLC on a new build. Now available in an Axioline format, SafetyBridge is poised for the next generation of control and IIoT applications.
