Essentra's hinges are used on every door application. Typically, two hinges per door are used, but more can be added for heavier doors. The standard materials for hinges are nylon, steel, and zinc. Nylon is used because it will not corrode and is a cost-effective option for lightweight doors. Steel is used in heavy-duty applications and comes with a zinc plating to protect the steel from corrosion. Zinc is the most versatile option, offering a combination of strength, aesthetics, and cost-effectiveness. Powder-coated parts come in black and offer some corrosion resistance; zinc and chrome plating offer the best corrosion resistance with chrome being the most visually appealing.
| Leaf Hinges are the most common type of hinge, providing easy installation and free swinging. Positioning hinges use an internal mechanism that keeps the door open. This is typically used when the door opens vertically, like a top loading wash machine. Detent hinges have locking stops that keep the door/panel at a specific angle and is useful when location is important. Standard leaf hinges come in a range of materials, styles, and mounting types making them the most versatile. |
Lift-off hinges provide easy serviceability to the interior of the cabinet. When a technician is servicing or installing equipment, the door can be easily removed and replaced when finished. Available materials: powder coated zinc, chrome plated zinc, powder-coated steel, and zinc plated steel. |
