Samtec’s Q Strip family of connectors have surface mount signal contacts as well as a surface mount ground plane between the two rows of signals for improved electrical performance. The integral ground plane can be used to maximize bandwidth and signal integrity, or it can be used as a power plane. If used for power, the ground plane can handle 23 amps to 25 amps, depending on the series. These connectors are rated to 28 Gbps (14 GHz) at a 5 mm stack height. The connectors can be routed as single-ended or in differential pair configurations. Mated sets of Q Strip connectors are available in seven different stack heights from 5 mm to 25 mm. The lower profile 5 mm stack heights are the most popular. They are available in vertical (parallel), perpendicular (right angle or 90°), and horizontal (coplanar) designs. Depending on the centerline, up to 180 total I/Os are available. Standard features include polarization, alignment pins for proper placement on the PCB, guideposts on the right angle and edge mount designs, weld tabs to increase the mechanical strength of the part to the board, optional latching clips, and RoHS compliance.
