CUHSxx Series Schottky Barrier Diodes

Toshiba has launched eight Schottky barrier diodes (SBD) (CUHSxxF40, CUHSxxF30, CUHSxxS40 and CUHSxxS30) which are suitable for rectifying power supply circuits and protecting reverse current, expanding the lineup.

The CUHSxx series uses a newly developed US2H package (package code: SOD-323HE) to achieve a low thermal resistance (105°C/W). Thermal design is simplified because the thermal resistance has been reduced by about 50% compared to the conventional package CUS10F40.

DC/DC boost converter ICs are used in voltage-boosting circuits for driving LCD backlight LEDs in portable devices such as smartphones, tablets, and notebook PCs. These applications require drive voltages which need to be boosted to around 25 V. These circuits sometimes utilize external SBDs instead of being incorporated in the ICs. In order to improve the efficiency of power supply use, SBDs are required to have low forward voltage and low reverse current.

The CUHS20F40 aims to achieve both low forward voltage and low reverse current. As such, it achieves a forward voltage of 0.39 V (typ.), reducing the forward voltage by approximately 35% compared to the existing CUS10F40. In addition, CUHS20S40 has a lower forward voltage of 0.32 V (typ.). Together, these products contribute to improved power efficiency.

In addition to the above-mentioned DC/DC converter circuits, SBDs are used in a wide range of applications, including motor driver circuits, MOSFET gate driver circuits, and freewheeling diodes. These packages are 2.5 mm x 1.4 mm x 0.6 mm (typ.), which are small-sized and feature low thermal resistance. The packages meet the demands of ever-shrinking board space and reduced thickness without degrading the performance.
