Renesas’ RX651 64-pin MCUs enable security and Flash functionality for industrial applications. Each MCU’s trusted secure IP (TSIP) and Flash area protection provides root-of-trust (RoT) device operation. The dual-bank Flash features of BGO and swap make the Flash firmware update easier through secure network communication. The 64-pin package reduces PCB footprint area for IoT edge applications.
The rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0 (IIoT) has increased the need for microcontrollers supporting all different aspects of security like confidentiality, integrity, and availability. A good example is a secure network connectivity device in manufacturing environments. Network connectivity makes it possible to monitor the operating state of machinery from both inside and outside the factory, to exchange data and make changes to production instructions, and to reprogram the MCU’s memory to update equipment settings. System manufacturers also need the capability to safely reprogram firmware or data in the MCU’s on-chip Flash memory to update machine control functions in a timely manner. Moreover, the availability of the network connection device becomes an essential parameter, as a unit malfunction due to external cyber-attacks may shut down the whole production line.
