The linear Hall IC TLE4998P has been designed specifically to meet the requirements of highly accurate rotation and position detection, as well as for current measurement applications. The sensor provides a digital PWM signal, which is ideally suited for direct decoding by any unit measuring a duty cycle of a rectangular signal (usually a timer/capture unit in a microcontroller). Furthermore, it is possible to attach an external lowpass filter, which allows an A/D conversion using the sensor supply voltage as a reference. The output stage is an open-drain driver pulling the output pad to low only. Therefore, the high level must be obtained by an external pull-up resistor. This output type has the advantage that the receiver may use even a lower supply voltage (e.g. 3.3 V). In this case, the pull-up resistor must be connected to the given receiver supply.The IC is produced in BiCMOS technology with high voltage capability, also providing reverse polarity protection. Digital signal processing, using a 16-bit DSP architecture together with digital temperature compensation, guarantees excellent long-time stability as compared to analog compensation methods. While the overall resolution is 16 bits, some internal stages work with resolutions up to 20 bits. The linear Hall IC TLE4998C has been designed specifically to meet the requirements of highly accurate angle and position detection as well as for current measurement applications. The sensor provides a digital SPC (Short PWM Code) signal, based on the standardized SENT (Single Edge Nibble Transmission, SAE J2716) protocol. The SPC protocol allows transmissions initiated by the ECU. Two further operation modes are available: range selection for dynamical switching of the measurement range during operation ,ID selection to build a bus system with up to 4 ICs on a single output line and a common supply, which can be individually accessed by the ECU. Each transmission sequence contains an adjustable number of nibbles representing the magnetic field, the temperature value and a status information of the sensor.The output stage is an open-drain driver pulling the output pin to low only. Therefore, the high level needs to be obtained by an external pull-up resistor. This output type has the advantage that the receiver may use an even lower supply voltage (e.g. 3.3 V). The Speed & Direction Hall effect sensor has two distinct Hall sensing elements precisely located 1.4 mm apart on a single integrated circuit chip, which is then encapsulated in a thermoset molding material. Two active Hall latches provide indication of the speed and direction of a magnetic gradient across the face of the package, such as the gradient from a rotating ring magnet. The small, 4-pin SOT89 style package surface mounts on PC boards and flexible circuits. Built-in temperature compensation is optimized to match the temperature coefficient of low cost magnets and track their performance over temperature. Latching magnetics are standard for reliable operation. A unique regulator circuit provides extremely stable operation with supply voltages as low as 3.4 Vdc and as high as 24 Vdc. A typical room temperature current consumption of 7.5 mA helps conserve power in battery operation. SS520 series sensors can use existing power supply sources in most applications, and can be directly interfaced with many electronic components without buffering or compensation circuitry. CAUTION: WAVE SOLDER DAMAGE do not wave solder this product. Wave soldering may negatively affect the sensor performance and reliability. Subjecting the sensor to wave soldering will void Honeywell's warranty. Failure to comply with these instructions may result in product damage. NOTE: Interruption of power to a latching device may cause the output to change state when power is restored. If a magnetic field of sufficient strength is present, the sensor output will be in the condition dictated by the magnetic field.
