PN7462 NFC Cortex-M0 Microcontrollers: NXP Semiconductors PN7462 NFC Cortex-M0 Microcontrollers offer a one-chip solution to build contactless applications. These MCUs includes NFC, microcontroller, optional contact smart card reader, and software on a single chip. The PN7462 MCUs operate at up to 20MHz frequency and feature 160kB flash memory, 12kB SRAM, and 4kB EEPROM. The peripherals include one host interface with either I2C-bus, SPI, USB or high-speed UART, and two master interfaces with SPI and I2C. These NXP MCUs offer high-level security for the card by performing current limiting, short-circuit detection, ESD protection, and supply supervision. Other features include contact and contactless interface frontend, up to 21 general-purpose I/O, and four general purpose timers. Applications include high integration devices, NFC applications, physical access control, USB NFC reader, gaming, and home banking.

As proximity technology, NFC only works when two devices are brought close together, so eavesdropping is almost impossible.NFC is a specialized subset of RF Identification (RFID).
