motors.ItletsyoudrivetwoDC motorswithyourArduinoboard,controllingthespeed
anddirectionofeachoneindependently.
Youcanalsomeasurethemotorcurrent
absorptionofeachmotor,amongotherfeatures.TheshieldisTinkerKitcompatible,
whichmeans you canquickly createprojectsby pluggingTinkerKitmodulestotheboard.

Power
TheArduinoMotorShieldmustbepoweredonlybyanexternalpowersupply.
BecausetheL298ICmountedontheshieldhastwoseparatepowerconnections,
oneforthelogicandoneforthemotorsupplydriver.Therequiredmotorcurrent
oftenexceedsthemaximumUSBcurrentrating.
External(nonUSB)powercancomeeitherfromanACtoDCadapter(wallwart)or
battery.Theadaptercanbeconnectedbyplugginga 2.1mmcenterpositiveplug
intotheArduino'sboardpowerjackonwhichthemotorshieldismountedorby
connectingthewiresthatleadthepowersupplytotheVinandGNDscrew
terminals,takingcaretorespectthepolarities.
ToavoidpossibledamagetotheArduinoboardonwhichtheshieldismounted,we
reccomendusinganexternalpowersupply thatprovidesavoltagebetween7and
12V.Ifyourmotorrequiremorethan9Vwerecommendthatyouseparate the
powerlinesoftheshieldandtheArduinoboardonwhichtheshieldismounted.
Thisispossiblebycuttingthe"VinConnect"jumperplacedonthebacksideofthe
shield.TheabsolutelimitfortheVinatthescrewterminalsis18V.
Thepowerpinsareasfollows:
Vinonthescrewterminalblock,istheinputvoltagetothemotorconnectedtothe
shield.Anexternalpowersupplyconnectedtothispinalsoprovidepowertothe
Arduinoboardonwhichismounted.Bycuttingthe"VinConnect"jumperyoumake
thisadedicatedpowerlineforthemotor.
GNDGroundonthescrewterminalblock.
Theshieldcansupply2amperesperchannel,foratotalof4amperesmaximum.
InputandOutput
Thisshieldhastwoseparatechannels,calledAandB,thateachuse4ofthe
Arduinopinstodriveorsensethemotor.Intotalthereare8pinsinuseonthis
shield.YoucanuseeachchannelseparatelytodrivetwoDCmotorsorcombine
themtodriveonebipolarsteppermotor.Theshield'spins,dividedbychannelare
showninthetablebelow:
