Power
TheArduinoMotorShieldmustbepoweredonlybyanexternalpowersupply.
BecausetheL298ICmountedontheshieldhastwoseparatepowerconnections,
oneforthelogicandoneforthemotorsupplydriver.Therequiredmotorcurrent
oftenexceedsthemaximumUSBcurrentrating.
External(non‐USB)powercancomeeitherfromanAC‐to‐DCadapter(wall‐wart)or
battery.Theadaptercanbeconnectedbyplugginga 2.1mmcenter‐positiveplug
intotheArduino'sboardpowerjackonwhichthemotorshieldismountedorby
connectingthewiresthatleadthepowersupplytotheVinandGNDscrew
terminals,takingcaretorespectthepolarities.
ToavoidpossibledamagetotheArduinoboardonwhichtheshieldismounted,we
reccomendusinganexternalpowersupply thatprovidesavoltagebetween7and
12V.Ifyourmotorrequiremorethan9Vwerecommendthatyouseparate the
powerlinesoftheshieldandtheArduinoboardonwhichtheshieldismounted.
Thisispossiblebycuttingthe"VinConnect"jumperplacedonthebacksideofthe
shield.TheabsolutelimitfortheVinatthescrewterminalsis18V.
