TheArduinoEthernetShield2allowsanArduinoBoardtoconnecttotheinternet.
Itisbasedonthe(WiznetW5500Ethernetchip).TheWiznetW5500providesa
network(IP)stackcapableofbothTCPandUDP.Itsupportsuptoeight
simultaneoussocketconnections.UsetheEthernetlibrarytowritesketchesthat
connecttotheInternetusingtheShield.TheEthernetShield2connectsto an
ArduinoBoardusinglongwirewrapheadersextendingthroughtheShield.This
keepsthepinlayoutintactandallowsanotherShieldtobestackedontopofit.
Themostrecentrevision oftheboardexposesthe1.0pinout onrev3ofthe
ArduinoUNOBoard.
TheEthernetShield2hasastandardRJ45connection,withanintegratedline
transformerandPoweroverEthernetenabled.
ThereisanonboardmicroSDcardslot,whichcanbeusedtostorefilesforserving
overthenetwork.ItiscompatiblewiththeArduinoUnoandMega(usingthe
Ethernetlibrary).TheonboardmicroSDcardreaderisaccessiblethroughtheSD
Library.Whenworkingwiththislibrary,SSisonPin4.The originalrevisionofthe
ShieldcontainedafullsizeSDcard slot;thisisnotsupported.
TheShieldalsoincludesaresetcontroller,toensurethattheW5500Ethernet
moduleisproperlyresetonpowerup.PreviousrevisionsoftheShieldwerenot
compatiblewiththeMegaandneededtobemanuallyresetafterpowerup.The
currentShieldhasaPoweroverEthernet(PoE)moduledesignedtoextractpower
fromaconventionaltwistedpairCategory5Ethernetcable.

TheShielddoesnotcomewithabuiltinPoEmodule,itisaseparatecomponent
thatmustbeaddedon.ArduinocommunicateswithboththeW5500andSDcard
usingtheSPIbus(throughtheICSPheader).Thisisondigitalpins10,11,12,and
13ontheUnoandpins50,51,and52ontheMega.Onbothboards,pin10isused
toselecttheW5500andpin4fortheSDcard.Thesepinscannotbeusedfor
generalI/O.OntheMega,thehardwareSSpin,53,isnotusedtoselecteitherthe
W5500ortheSDcard,butitmustbekeptasanoutputortheSPIinterfacewon't
work.
NotethatbecausetheW5500andSDcardsharetheSPIbus,onlyoneatatimecan
beactive.Ifyouareusingbothperipheralsinyourprogram,thisshouldbetaken
careofbythecorrespondinglibraries.Ifyou'renotusingoneoftheperipheralsin
yourprogram,however,you'llneedtoexplicitlydeselectit.Todothis withtheSD
card,setpin 4asanoutputandwriteahightoit.FortheW5500,setdigitalpin10
asahighoutput.
TheShieldprovidesastandardRJ45Ethernetjack.
TheresetbuttonontheShieldresetsboth theW5500andtheArduinoBoard.
