1. INTRODUCTION
Insertion Tool 455830-1 is designed to insert a
Universal MATE-N-LOK* pin or socket contact into a
connector housing. See Figure 1. Read these
instructions thoroughly before using the tool.
Dimensions in this instruction sheet are in metric
units [with U.S. customary units in brackets].
Figures are not drawn to scale.
Reasons for reissue of this instruction sheet are
provided in Section 6, REVISION SUMMARY.
2. DESCRIPTION
This tweezer-shaped insertion tool features two
grooved insertion tips for grasping the wire of the
contact to be inserted and two tool handles, which
assist in applying even pressure to the insertion tips.
3. INSERTION PROCEDURE (See Figure 1)
1. Place the insertion tool over the wire with the
insertion tips behind the contact insulation barrel.
2. Insert the contact into the cont
act cavity of the
housing until the locking lance of the contact is fully
seated.
3. Remove the insertion tips from the contact cavity,
then
pull back lightly on the wire of the contact to
make sure that the contact is locked in place.
4. TOOL INSPECTION
It is recommended that the insertion tool be inspected
immediately upon arrival and at regularly scheduled
intervals to ensure that the tool has not been
damaged. The insertion tool should be inspected
using the dimensions provided in Figure 1.
