USB Type-C Cable Detect (CD) and Power Delivery (P

Lattice Semiconductors' USB type-C connectors bring a number of significant benefits over prior versions of USB connectors. These benefits include a small reversible connector, two channels of 10 Gbps USB data, flexible alternate modes for transporting non USB data such as video, and up to 100 W of power delivery capability.

In order to utilize the full set of capabilities, equipment must support CD to determine the cable orientation and type of equipment attached. PD communications must also be supported to enable negotiation of multiple items, such as power support, and the assignment of conductors in the cable.
