Railway DC/DC Converters

XP Power extends its offering of wide input range DC/DC converters for railway and rolling stock applications from 8 W to 150 W.

The recently expanded range now consists of the RDD08, RDC20, RDC30, and RDC40 series of 8 W, 20 W, 30 W, and 40 W metal-encapsulated wide range DC/DC converters. Also available, are the RDQ100 and RDQ150 series of 100 W and 150 W quarter and half brick baseplate cooled DC/DC converters. These are all designed for railway and industrial applications. These highly efficient PCB-mounted converters, typically 90%, comply with railway and rolling stock EMC standard EN50121-3-2 and can accommodate a wide range of input voltages. The RDC series are available with either a nominal input of 72 VDC (range 36 VDC to 40 VDC) or 110 VDC (range 55 VDC to 176 VDC). The RDD series are available with ranges of 13 VDC to 70 VDC or 42 VDC to 176 VDC and the RDQ with 66 VDC to 160 VDC.

Combined with their small size, starting at only 1.25" x 0.8" x 0.4" (31.75 mm x 20.32 mm x 10.16 mm), and a high efficiency, the models offer a high power density with minimal wasted heat. The units cover the extended temperature range of -40°C to 100°C, depending on series, with the RDD and RDC series designed for convection cooling and the RDQ for baseplate cooling.

The RDD08, RDC20, and RDC40 are available with either single- or dual-outputs, the RDC30 with single-, dual-, and triple-outputs, and the RDQ with single-outputs. Single-output models are available with 3.3 VDC, 5 VDC, 12 VDC, or 15 VDC. Duals comprise ±12 VDC or ±15 VDC outputs, and triple offering combinations of the same voltages.. The RDD08, RDC20, and RDC30 also have a ±5 VDC dual output option.

Standard controls and signals include remote On/Off, output over voltage, input under-voltage, and over-current protection. An output trim function provides ±10% adjustment from stated nominal output on 20 W to 150 W single output models only. All models feature input to output isolation.
