TMCC160 motionCookie™ Series Servo-Motor Controlle

In addition to their embedded motor-control electronics and intelligent mixed-signal semiconductors, TRINAMIC motion control introduces an additional product family: the motionCookies.

Design of motor drives and motion control requires detailed application knowledge in handling of electric motors. Implementation experience with topics like commutation, motor-control loops, position sensors, and connection to various bus and communication interfaces are often required.

The core competences of device manufacturers and system integrators that integrate electric drives into their products are typically on a much higher abstraction level. Developers of blood analyzers, for example, often possess distinct competence in the field of image processing or reagents. Moving sample trays and sensors are accepted as a necessary requirement to complete a functional product. For this reason, motion-control components are either sourced as complete units, or the necessary competence is built in-house at the cost of draining attention from the core tasks.

To avoid this defocusing effect, motor drives should be self-contained hardware and software building blocks that can be integrated in the simplest possible manner into products, without requiring detailed know-how in motor control. TRINAMIC’s TMCC motionCookie series addresses these requirements.

In the same way that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules and interfaces have been developed for easy integration into more complete systems, the motionCookie microsystem integrates driver hardware, application software, and protocol stacks to implement a complete motion-control subsystem.

Design and development cycles can be reduced to a minimum, and systems with integrated servo-controllers can be brought to the market within the shortest possible time.
