STMicroelectronics has extended its portfolio of STSPIN motor drivers with the introduction of three monolithic devices optimized for the requirements of battery-operated systems in terms of low input voltage, low noise, and minimal power consumption at full load as well as in standby conditions. Available in a 3 x 3 mm QFN package, they are the smallest ICs in the world integrating both the control logic and a high-efficiency, low RDS(ON) power stage to drive stepper, single and double DC, as well as three-phase brushless DC motors.
They provide accurate positioning and unprecedented smoothness of motion with up to 256 microsteps per full step.
Features
- Extremely low operating voltage of 1.8 V to 10 V, wide 7 V to 45 V range for STSPIN820
- High output current, up to 2.6 ARMS, to drive two DC motors using a single IC (STSPIN240)
- Best-in-class standby consumption down to 150 nA, for extended battery lifetime
- Extreme position accuracy and motion smoothness, with up to 256 microsteps per full step (STSPIN220)
- UVLO, over-current, and thermal protection for maximum reliability
- Ultra-miniaturized, 3 mm x 3 mm QFN package and 4 mm x 4 mm QFN package
Applications
- All battery-powered stepper, DC, and three-phase brushless (BLDC) motors in applications such as the following:
- Toys
- Portable printers
- Robotics
- POS devices
- Portable medical equipment
- Healthcare and wellness devices (shavers and toothbrushes)
