MAX16930/MAX20002 Switching Regulators

Maxim Integrated’s switching regulator ICs and power modules can provide longer battery life, generate less heat, and require less board space than other options. Maxim’s DC/DC switching regulators and controllers can handle a broad range of applications and can include automotive temperature grade. Two featured automotive temperature grade parts are the MAX16930 and MAX2002 families.

Maxim’s MAX16930 and MAX16931 are high-voltage, synchronous step-down controllers with a step-up preboost controller. The ICs can operate with an input voltage range from 2 V to 42 V with preboost active and can operate in drop-out condition by running at 95% duty cycle. These controllers operate 180° out-of-phase at frequencies up to 2.2 MHz that allow for small external components, reduced output ripple, and to guarantee no AM band interference. The switching frequency is resistor adjustable and are offered with an asynchronous step-up controller.

The MAX20002 and MAX20003 are small, synchronous buck converters with integrated high-side and low-side MOSFETs. The MAX 20002 is designed to deliver up to 2 A while the MAX20003 delivers up to 3 A with input voltages from 3.5 V to 36 V while using only 15 μA quiescent current at no load. Voltage quality can be monitored by observing the PGOOD signal. This family offers fixed output voltages of 5 V/3.3 V, along with the ability to program the output voltage between 1 V to 10 V. Frequency can be programmed using a resistor to ground on the FOSC pin from 220 kHz to 2.2 MHz.
