Digi International's 3G (HSPA/GSM) AT&T certified cellular modem is available in their Digi XBee form factor as well a development kit. The XBC-M5-UT-001 is the Digi XBee that has 3G capability with 2G fallback connectivity for North American and global use. Supported bands include band 19 (800 MHz), band 5 (850 MHz), band 8 (900 MHz), band 2 (1900 MHz), and band 1 (2100 MHz). This modem has RF throughput of up to 921 Kbps and speeds of 7.2 Mpbs (downlink) and 5.76 Mpbs (uplink). The XBC-M5-UT-001 comes with a nano (4FF) sim slot as well as a U.FL connector for antenna connection. This Digi XBee can take a 2.7 to 5.5 voltage input and will use 700 mA at 3.3 V of current in transmit mode and 224 mA at 3.3 V in receive mode.

With a certified module, it allows the designer to go from concept, to prototype to finished product in less time and using less money.
