ALT80800 AEC-Q100, 2 A Synchronous Buck LED Driver

Allegro Microsystems' ALT80800 is a compact, high-efficiency, low EMI LED driver for automotive lighting applications. It is a synchronous buck switching regulator that provides constant-current output to drive high-power LEDs. It integrates both high-side and low-side N-channel DMOS switches for DC-to-DC step-down conversion. Output current is user-selectable by an external current sense resistor, and output voltage is automatically adjusted to drive various numbers of LEDs in a single string.

The ALT80800 is the latest release in the evolution of Allegro’s automotive buck LED drivers. It is a single-IC synchronous buck switching regulator that provides constant-current output to drive high-power LEDs. It integrates both high-side and low-side N-channel DMOS switches for DC-to-DC step-down conversion.

Features
  • 55 VIN rating (60 V abs max) that can be used on traditional 12 V automotive and 24 V trucks, and systems using a pre-boost supply followed by the ALT80800 to drive a high number of LEDs
  • Integrated FETs; no need for external FET(s) or diode as part of the buck conversion and higher efficiency
  • Switching frequency dithering for EMI reduction; pass OEM requirements and minimize associated components
  • 5 VCC can be used to source up to 14 mA as a local rail (e.g., power a small uC) potentially eliminate an LDO
  • PWM and analog dimming options, including control for NTC temperature foldback or LED binning
  • Adjustable LED open fault mask setting for low VIN operation (dropout mode)
Applications
  • Automotive LED lighting:
    • High/low beam and matrix headlights
    • Front and rear fog lights
    • Daytime running lights
    • Dimmable interior lights
    • Other automotive lighting applications
    • Turn/stop lights
