MAX38801 15 A Switching Regulator

Maxim’s MAX38801 is a switching regulator designed for applications operating from 6.5 V to 14 V inputs that require up to 15 A maximum loads. This regulator offers a fully integrated solution that provides high-efficiency power delivery for precision outputs that demand fast transient response.

This single-chip regulator offers different programmability options to enable a wide range of configurations. These programmable features include internal and external reference voltage, output voltage set-point, switching frequency, overcurrent-protection level (OCP), and soft-start timing. Discontinuous current mode (DCM) operation can be enabled using pin strapping to improve light-load efficiency.

The MAX38801 includes multiple protection and measurement features including positive and negative cycle-by-cycle OCP, short-circuit protection and overtemperature protection (OTP). Overvoltage and undervoltage protection prevent damages by shutting down the regulator when the voltage is out of specification. A status pin indicates when the output voltage is within range and in regulation. The device has an analog output that can be configured to report output current or junction temperature with ±5% and ±8°C accuracy, respectively. The MAX38801 is offered in a temperature range of 0°C to +125°C in a space-saving 19-ball WLCSP package.
