48 Volt Family for Modern Power Demands

VICOR's family of components can help customers easily convert to or from 48 V with minimal losses, and they offer a wide variety of cost-effective, high-density options to configure a power solution to meet specialized needs.

New technology requires more power to deliver on next-generation advancements. Today's applications are increasing performance by adding more processing capability, longer run rates, and additional peripherals and features, all of which require more power.

I2R losses in a system can be detrimental to system efficiency and can reduce the power flow to the load effectively given cable, connector, or PCB limitations.

Higher-voltage distribution of power reduces the I2R losses. For example, a 48 V vs. 12 V power distribution scheme creates a 16x in power loss reduction.

There are several series of products that support high-efficiency 48 V distribution from source to point-of-load, including the Vicor BCMs, DCMs, ZVS buck and buck-boost, VTMs, PRMs, and PFMs, as shown in the 48 V chart below (click to enlarge).
